Although I am based in the Washington, D.C. area I am originally from Ithaca, New York where I first learned to shoot film with a primitive 35mm SLR. I was fortunate to have a job while in college as a darkroom technician in an electron microscopy lab where precision black and white printing was critical. A side benefit of working in the lab was that I was able to develop and print my own work. Having the freedom to experiment in the darkroom was where I learned the techniques and nuances that allow me to make representational and abstracted images. This background has been invaluable to me in the digital world where software has replaced chemical processes, but where the same sensibilities apply.
My interests include architectural photography, nature, portraiture and people at work or at play, and sports photography. It seems that by looking through the viewfinder I can more easily isolate the essential elements that might otherwise go unnoticed - whether it is on the street, in the studio, or while walking in the countryside.
I do hope you enjoy my photographs and will leave a comment or two. Thanks for visiting!
